Introducing: Will Robertson, Assistant Support Worker, Community Homes

Will-RobertsonWill’s career journey took many twists and turns before he found his way to our doors. After working in water haulage, health care, fast food and on the front lines of the restaurant business he found himself feeling like a square peg in the proverbial round hole when it came to his work… or has he describes, “I was feeling like a misfit. I spoke differently, thought differently, looked differently and dreamed differently [than everyone else].”

That’s when a friend told Will about what was, at the time, the Peterborough & District Association for Community Living (PDACL). He got in touch and went for an interview, thinking a job there could hold him over for a year or so. That was in 1989 and, 35 years later, he is still here. Will had found his place.

Over the years Will has held different positions in the agency as it evolved into Community Living Trent Highlands. He’s worked part-time, with the past Options program, and as an overnight staff in at least three different Community Homes.

Will has also been very involved in the life of the agency and its employees, having held a variety of positions with the local union. He has also sat on a number of committees within the agency; currently he is the health and safety rep for one of our Community Homes and is an enthusiastic member of QUEST team.

Will is inspired daily by the people and the work of Community Living Trent Highlands. It is important  to him to have opportunities to evolve in his work while being part of a organization that does the same. Community Living Trent Highlands continues to be a leader, he says, not only in the community but also in the developmental services sector at large. He is proud and excited to be a part of that.

Will also appreciates CLTH’s commitment to its staff who he says have, time and time again, been recognized by leadership as essential to the success of the organization. He values what he calls CLTH’s inclusive, professional and respectful work environment.

We’ll let Will sum up:

“I’m honoured to work for some of the most amazing, creative, fascinating, brave and generous people. I’m blessed to work alongside some of the most dedicated, fun, intelligent, caring and friendly people. I’m thriving 30+ years after that fateful day, working for an employer genuinely invested in me, my health and happiness, and that celebrates my contributions to the organization. If you too are feeling like a bit of a misfit, I invite you to try on Community Living Trent Highlands. You just might find be the perfect fit.”
