Last night as I was leaving a meeting I looked to the Western sky and it was purple. A deep purple with stars just popping out of the sky. I took a few seconds to really see it and took a deep breath. Then I jumped in the car and drove home. I think sometimes we get caught up in the idea that we all need a studio with some kind of singing bowl and yoga mat with a play list of relaxation reels at the ready to call ourselves mindful. In these times of great challenge and every changing news stories that cause anxiety, there is not much time to build or relax in the Zen den of our imagination. If our busy lives are made up of moments, I think that switching out the odd moment to really notice what is going on around will have a cumulative effect. Right in the moment of the purple sky, I could focus, get clear, breathe deep. All the worries were still there, but I was free for a moment. Find a purple sky moment. Drink in a moment of clarity, quiet, safety. Just ease into that for a few precious seconds before you have to get back to the grind. Maybe it will not change everything in the minute, but I am confident that there is a cumulative effect to taking these moments when you can. A regulation that helps you to see clearly in the next step of the ongoing and almost chronic problem solving and navigation that fills up our lives from the edges. The sky was purple with dots of stars and when you notice it, in the moment, all is well.
